Act 2 Scene 9

This was the best scene of the whole BOOK! Everyone accused in the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial was set free. Each one of the boys had a whole new chance at life. It often seemed real dark and bleak for the boys at the start of the fight, then they lost their main attorney. Yet in the end everything paid off and the boys were back in the Barrio.

"I still cant believe it, WE WON, WE WON THE APPEAL!"- Lupe....pg87
This was the greatest battle fought and won in the whole book... Lupe is happy because even she knows how they were all being discriminated against...This shows the joy that everyone was experiencing and also the disbelief.

Act 2 Scene 8

Scene 8 was another short scene, but they gave alot of real communications between the press and and servicemen in the war...aside from the racial tension that had already occuring on our own U.S soil.

" American first army reaches Germany, Sir"- Rudy....pg86
Henry's brother Rudy has joined the army and things are changing. The Word War is turning and America is winning. Two wars are at a turning point at the same time. The Sleepy Lagoon trial is currently being resurfaced.

Act 2 Scene 7

In this scene Alice is writing to Henry but he is not receiving the letters, i believe its because he is in solitary. Yet, when he gets the letters he writes back angrily. I can almost feel where Henry is coming from in saying...."Why keep fighting when everyone is against us?"....I liked this scene because it allowed us to really see if Alice really going to fight for these boys.

" What if we Lose?"- Henry...pg83
This perfectly shows that Henry has doubt in the fight for freedom. While in solitary he ahd a whole tlak with the Pachuco and started wondering, Henry began to feel institutionalized. This shows the stress that each one of these boys went through while sitting in jail for no reason.

Act 2 Scene 6

Scene six is about the Zoot Suit riots and its very straight forward... The crazy thing about all of this is that people were so racist and the press were fueling the fire under already tensions between Mexicans and White people. I liked his scene although it was rather short.

" You savages weren't even wearing clothes when the white man pulled you out of the jungle."- Press...pg80
The press speaks for all the racist people as a whole. By saying this, it automatically allow the reader to make inferences on how they saw the Mexican culture. This was very important because it is the prime reason the whole 38th street gang is in jail. Everyone is against them!

Act 2 Scene 5

Scene five was a nice pieces of the play.....it allowed for me to see direct conversation between Henry and the Pachuco...Henry was in Solitary confinement. The only confusing part was when the Pachuco was telling Henry to give up, Why was he doing this?.....Did he honestly feel as if they were going to lose

"Better get used to it carnal, you're in here for life, bato" -Pachuco..pg 77
The pachuco is Henry's inner self, he is just speaking how he feels. This is important because we have dual personalities targeting eachother back and forth.
